Our government has been failing us for generations. Long before the arrival of COVID-19, real wages were going down, productivity was declining, the healthcare system was rapidly deteriorating, and so much more. While workers have continued to be exploited by this country we’ve accepted this as part of our “reality”. The same reality that was so fragile to confront a global pandemic.
Nevertheless, our communities remain exceptionally resourceful and resilient — regular people have stepped up all over the country to come together and support one another in these troubling times. Self-organized mutual aid networks and community wellness programs have kept our livelihoods afloat.
In a world that exploits poor and working-class people, one thing is for certain: the way we survive is to go through it together by supporting each other.
